Introduction

Transformer noise can become a project problem when the equipment is installed near offices, hospitals, hotels, residential boundaries or noise-sensitive industrial areas. For overseas EPC projects, buyers should specify the noise requirement clearly before manufacturing, not after site complaints begin.

This guide explains sound power, sound pressure, factory testing, site acceptance and practical mitigation options using IEC 60076-10, local utility interface requirements and local environmental requirements as the main references.

2. RFQ Wording That Avoids Disputes

  • State whether the required value is sound power or sound pressure.
  • Define load condition, cooling mode and fan operation condition.

  • Require a factory noise test report where the project is noise-sensitive.
  • Ask the EPC acoustic consultant to translate site boundary limits into equipment requirements.

5. Reference Standards and Site Review

Local environmental noise limits, project owner requirements and consultant acoustic calculations may be stricter than factory test values. The buyer should connect equipment guarantees with site acceptance criteria before order release.

Buyer Recommendation

Do not write only "low noise transformer" in the RFQ. State the required noise metric, test method, cooling condition, acceptance tolerance and documentation. For sensitive sites, ask the acoustic consultant to verify site boundary noise before approving the transformer design.
