Installation boundary

This guide is an engineering review checklist, not a site work instruction. Installation and energization must be performed by qualified personnel under the approved drawings, manufacturer instructions, local electrical rules, risk assessment and owner switching procedure.

1. Receiving inspection

  • Match the nameplate, packing list, serial number and approved datasheet.
  • Inspect coils, supports, enclosure, terminals, fans, sensors and accessories for transport damage or moisture.
  • Record photographs and exceptions before moving the transformer from the unloading area.
  • Use only identified lifting and jacking points from the approved handling drawing.

2. Room and foundation review

  • Confirm the foundation level, load capacity, anchoring and vibration requirements.
  • Confirm the equipment handling route and maintenance access.
  • Use manufacturer-approved clearances; do not copy a generic distance from another transformer.
  • Verify that room ventilation supports the guaranteed losses and selected AN/AF duty.
  • Check altitude, ambient temperature, humidity, dust and condensation against the approved design.

3. Electrical interfaces

InterfaceReview point
HV and LV terminalsPhase sequence, cable or busbar forces, flexible links, clearances and support.
Protective earthingFrame and enclosure bonding to the site earthing system.
Temperature sensorsSensor type, channel mapping, controller supply, alarm and trip logic.
Cooling fansSupply, direction, stage control, local test and status feedback.
NeutralEarthing arrangement, conductor rating and protection-study interface.

Terminal tightening values must come from the approved manufacturer document for the actual hardware. A universal torque table is not safe for every connection.

4. Pre-energization record

  • Approved drawings, nameplate and protection settings available at site.
  • Visual inspection complete and shipping restraints removed as instructed.
  • Earthing and bonding verified.
  • Ratio, winding resistance, insulation and other agreed checks recorded using the project procedure.
  • Temperature controller, alarms, trips and fans function-tested.
  • Phase sequence and cable identification verified.
  • Protection and interlocking tests accepted before energization.

Applicable framework

IEC 60076-11:2018 is the principal IEC product standard for dry-type transformers within its scope. Project installation requirements also depend on local regulations, the approved manufacturer manual and the owner's safety rules.
