How to evaluate an electrical equipment case study

A case study is most useful when it explains the problem, selected equipment, project boundary and available evidence. It is a reference for technical discussion, not a substitute for the buyer’s load study, drawings or destination approval.

Compare operating conditions

Check whether the reference and your project share voltage class, frequency, load profile, indoor or outdoor duty, ambient temperature, altitude and short-circuit requirements.

Review the equipment interface

Transformer, switchgear, protection, metering, cables and controls must be coordinated. Confirm which interfaces were included in the referenced supply and which remained with the EPC or owner.

Request applicable evidence

Photographs, approved drawings, routine test reports, packing records and project-specific datasheets answer different questions. Evidence should be linked to the supplied equipment and cleared for public use.

Before using a reference in a purchase decision

  • Match the reference to your actual rating and system arrangement.
  • Record differences in scope, standards, site and operating duty.
  • Ask which tests and documents apply to the offered configuration.
  • Require approval drawings and guaranteed data before manufacturing.
