GCS vs GCK Low Voltage Switchgear: How to Choose for Industrial MCC and Distribution Projects

By Ziyao Engineering Team2026-06-1711 min

Why Buyers Compare GCS and GCK

GCS and GCK are both low-voltage withdrawable switchgear systems used in industrial plants, substations, utilities, buildings, and infrastructure projects. They can look similar in a tender document, but they are not always the same in cabinet structure, drawer arrangement, maintainability, current capacity, and project positioning.

For overseas buyers, the safest selection method is to start from the single-line diagram, feeder schedule, load type, maintenance requirement, and site installation conditions. The model name should support the electrical design, not replace it.

Quick Decision Guide

Project RequirementRecommended DirectionWhy It Matters
Main LV distribution with many outgoing feedersGCSBetter suited for larger distribution boards and mixed feeder arrangements.
Motor control center for pumps, fans, compressors, and process linesGCKOften selected for MCC applications with compact drawer modules.
High maintainability and frequent feeder replacementGCS or GCK, confirm drawer unit designThe drawer mechanism, interlock, and secondary plug quality are more important than the name alone.
Budget-sensitive industrial power roomGCKCan be economical when the feeder schedule is mainly MCC or standard outgoing circuits.
Export project with strict documentation and FATEither, with complete technical confirmationDrawings, component brands, busbar rating, short-circuit rating, and test reports should be fixed before production.

GCS Low Voltage Switchgear: Practical Positioning

GCS low voltage switchgear is commonly used for power distribution, motor control, capacitor compensation, and integrated LV switchboard systems. It is a strong option when the project needs a more flexible cabinet arrangement, larger current ratings, and a combination of incoming, bus tie, feeder, and motor-control sections.

Typical applications include industrial plants, utility substations, water treatment stations, mining facilities, commercial buildings, and EPC projects where electrical rooms require maintainable low-voltage distribution panels.

GCK Low Voltage Switchgear: Practical Positioning

GCK low voltage switchgear is often selected for motor control center applications and standard LV distribution feeders. It is useful when many loads are controlled through compact drawer units and the project values modular maintenance, organized cable compartments, and economical panel construction.

GCK is frequently specified for pumps, fans, conveyor systems, workshops, production lines, and auxiliary power distribution in industrial sites.

Technical Parameters to Confirm Before Quotation

  • Rated voltage and frequency: commonly 400V or 690V, 50Hz or 60Hz depending on the project country.
  • Main busbar current: confirm incoming breaker rating, transformer capacity, and future spare capacity.
  • Short-circuit withstand: match the upstream transformer impedance and protection coordination.
  • Feeder schedule: breaker size, motor starter type, VFD feeders, spare feeders, and metering requirement.
  • Component brand: define whether the project requires Schneider, ABB, Siemens, CHINT, Delixi, or other approved components.
  • Cable entry: top or bottom cable entry, front or rear access, and cable gland plate requirements.
  • Installation environment: indoor temperature, humidity, dust, corrosion level, and IP protection.
  • Testing and documentation: routine test report, schematic drawing, layout drawing, packing list, and FAT photos.

Procurement Recommendation

If the project is a large LV distribution room with mixed incoming, bus tie, feeder, and MCC sections, GCS is usually the safer starting point. If the project is mainly motor-control feeders with standard drawer units and a tighter budget, GCK is often a practical option.

For export projects, send the single-line diagram, load list, installation country, component preference, and required standards before requesting a price. Ziyao Power can review the feeder schedule and recommend the most suitable cabinet structure for production, FAT, packing, and shipment.

RFQ Checklist for GCS or GCK Panels
